Luis Munoz Marin Senior Center
Enhancing the quality of life for our most vulnerable citizens.
Drop into the Luis Munoz Marin Senior Center any weekday morning and you will see a lively community at work as Hispanics and seniors from all over Lancaster County get together for a hot breakfast, a bit of socializing, and maybe a spirited game of dominos or cards.
Every day there is a full calendar of things to do with activities like Spanish news and conversation groups, mental health support, bingo, yoga, Bible study, music appreciation, and arts and crafts. Staff is always available to help with basic needs, resources and education, medical assistance, and serving as a translator or advocate. We can also help place seniors with paid or volunteer jobs to provide income and enhance their purpose in the community.
The Luis Munoz Marin facility, named for the Puerto Rican poet, journalist, and politician who became the first democratically elected governor of Puerto Rico, is an official Lancaster County Senior Center and is supported in part by the Lancaster County Office of Aging. It is the largest center in Lancaster and the only center that cooks hot food on-site instead of using pre-packaged meals prepared at a different location. Annually the center provides over 32,000 hot meals – both breakfast and lunch – for seniors and other individuals in the community who otherwise would not have eaten that day.
The Luis Munoz Marin Senior Center supports our most vulnerable citizens with social, education, recreation, and psychological services. It enhances the quality of life, protects against loneliness, isolation, depression, or illness, and preserves independent living in an active multi-lingual and diverse community.
There is no cost to take advantage of these services. Everyone is welcome!
